Biography

Gary John Gresl holds a Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, from the Related Art Department of the School of Family Resources and Consumer Sciences, since renamed the School of Human Ecology.

Born in Manitowoc, WI, in 1943, Gary attended Manitowoc schools, including the Manitowoc County Teacher's College, followed by three years at the University of Wisconsin, Steven's Point, where he gained a Bachelor's in Education with a Music Minor and a concentration of art and art history classes.

Gary has been an Elementary School and Adult Education teacher, serving five years in the Brillion, WI, public shool system, and for more than ten years teaching adult classes related to antiques, collectibles and art at UW Milwaukee, UW Manitowoc, Sheboygan and Fond du lac, as well as Mount Mary College, Milwaukee. He is the father of two sons, Joshua and Jonah.

After receiving his Master's degree from UW Madison in 1973 Gary began operating in the antiques trade, settling in the Milwaukee area as employee, assistant manager, manager and part owner of the Milwaukee Antique Center. The antique center continued successfully from 1974 thru 2005, for a total of 31 years.

Gary has served as President of the Wisconsin Painters & Sculptors, Inc., organization several times and been on its Board of Directors for a couple decades, a past member of the Wisconsin Antiques Dealer Association, served on numerous art panels and jury committees, been an author, and the originator of the Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Awards. He is an exhibiting artist having been represented several times in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art's Wisconsin Triennial, the Wisconsin Artists Biennial, plus many dozens of juried, solo, duo and group exhibits. (Visit GRESL.COM)
